Returning champions South Korea reveal Overwatch World Cup jerseys
- South Korea will be heavy favourites again who have won both prior World Cups
- Despite winning the Overwatch League, only one London Spitfire player made it
- The Groups will be in Korea, USA, Thailand and France with the final at Blizzcon
This year, we got to see the biggest esports competition in Overwatch history with the inaugural Overwatch League season. Yet, there are even more tournaments to come this year with the Overwatch World Cup on the horizon.
Soon, we will see the 24 qualified teams competing for national pride with the finals culminating at Blizzcon. One team is already the early favourite to take the whole thing, South Korea.
Korea have already won the previous two World Cups, defeating Russia 4-0 in the 2016 final before defeating Canada 4-1 the following year. If they lift the trophy again, they’ll be doing so in style with these snazzy uniforms.
The jerseys for Team South Korea at the 2018 Overwatch World Cup have been revealed online
The jerseys sport the colours of the South Korean flag with minimalist and stylish stripes. A single red and blue stripe sit on the right hand side of the shirts while the rest of the jersey is white.
However, the stripes then stretch over the back in a diagonal wave to add an extra layer of colour and flavour.
Not only are Korea already two-time champions, their roster is packed with big-name players who dominated the Overwatch League.
The red and blue stripes wrap around the back to add some flavour to the clean jersey design
In the DPS role they have New York Excelsior pair Jong-ryeol ‘Saebyeolbe’ Park and Hae-seong ‘Libero’ Kim as well as Seoul Dynasty’s Byung-sun ‘Fleta’ Kim and OWL Grand Finalist Jan-hyeok ‘Carpe’ Lee of Philadelphia Fusion.
Meanwhile in the tank position, South Korea also have a fantastic group of players to choose from. Chan-hyung ‘Fissure’ Baek turned LA Gladiators’ season around while his rival at LA Valiant Pan-seung ‘Fate’ Koo also looked strong. New York Excelsior have yet another player in Tae-hong ‘MekO’ Kim while Jun-ho ‘Fury’ Kim represents London Spitfire.
The domination of NYX continues in the support role with both Yeon-joon ‘Ark’ Hong and Tae-sung ‘Anamo’ Jung. Then completing the team is Yeong-seo ‘Kariv’ Park from Valiant and Dynasty’s fearsome support, Sung-hyeon ‘Jjonak’ Bang.
Of the 12 members, half of them are NYX players which isn’t surprising considering how dominant they were during the season, although they did fail to make the Grand Final. On the other hand, it is surprising that OWL champions Spitfire only have one representative although that could be down to their poor form during Stage 4.
